Where Should We Be?

As the band and I drove from Fort Worth to Manhattan, Kansas last night we traveled through several towns and it got me thinking how many great cities there are throughout Texas and Oklahoma.

Most of the time, we are playing in either large cities or college towns - both of these have different crowds and venues. We’ve played in bars and dancehalls, festivals and private events but I’m sure there are several places that we never play at.

Do Texas Music Bands Need to Lower Their Ticket Prices?

To buy or not to buy, that is the question.
It's obvious that the down economy has affected the job market, real estate sales and the oil industry. So why hasn't it affected the price of a ticket to see your favorite band?

I think it's time the music industry adapts to the economic change. Fans are still looking for a good time and a way to have fun so why haven't we helped them out?

Because ticket prices have been escalating for years, a price cut would give fans a break. Between iTunes, festivals, CD sales, tours and merchandise we are asking a lot of our fans. Have bands priced themselves out of the reach of those who made them who they are?

In the end, high ticket prices will hurt the concert business as a whole. If this economy continues, eventually no-one will be able to afford a ticket. There are more bands than ever traveling the roads and promoting their music these days but if no-one can afford to watch, bands will go under.

If fans aren't bringing home as much money as they have in the past, should I still be charging the same amount?

What are your thoughts?

Rock on,

Rich
